Evaluation:
- Synopsis of the WebQuest including its intended audience, its educational goals, and the curriculum standards addressed if stated. This WebQuest was created for a French 1 classroom while they were working on a unit about Paris. The main goals of this WebQuest is for the students to learn about different monuments and points of interest in Paris. Each group of students has different topics they are researching and at the end of the WebQuest they will create a PowerPoint about their topic to present to their classmates.
- What pedagogical strategies are employed in the WebQuest and are they effective? Is there use of metaphor? Are they using inductive or deductive strategies? Is there scaffolding? What other strategies do you see? The WebQuest has students working in pairs to take the information and present it in a way that can be understood by others. The beginning of the project is all inductive, the students are presented with information on the Internet and they must analyze it on their own. However the end of the project is deductive when the students essentially teach their topic to their classmates.
- In what ways is the WebQuest taking advantage of technology? In what ways is it 'change without difference'? Could this WebQuest be done just as well by photocopying pages and handing them out to students? This WebQuest is designed so the students are using technology the entire time. They first use the Internet to locate and analyze information on their various topics then they must use PowerPoint to create a presentation about their topic to share with their classmates. Yes this could be done by using photocopies of the different websites then the students would have to make a poster or some other physical presentation of their topic however I don't believe it would be as effective and it would be a huge waste of paper to print out all the information from every website about every topic.
- Technically, does it work? Does it have bugs or flaws such as broken links or images? Is the material out of date? Does it credit its sources? Yes it does technically work. All of the material is current and comes from websites that get updated with new information regularly. Yes it does credit its sources.
- How would you improve the WebQuest? In order to make it more interactive and fun for the students I might change it into a "Plan a Trip to Paris" assignments where they choose the monuments they are interested and create an itinerary for their dream weekend in Paris. To make it more challenging (more for upper level students) I would have them do this all in French.
